It can also be used as a shade canopy. In this photo tarp was hung between two trees and the four corners were staked out with the included guy ropes and stakes. The Apex was designed to be used in countless confuguations. Below are some examples of different modes that this tarp is capable of. Storm Mode w/ Partially Closed Ends for Hammock Camping The end tie-out points allow the tarp to be partially closed to add extra weather protection at the ends of the hammock. You can't see it in this photo but there is a camping hammock under the tarp. High & Wide for Hammock Camping In mild weather, you can set the Apex up high and wide by tying the ridge tie-outs to guy ropes as high on the trees as you can reach. Use the entire 8' lengths of guy ropes to stake out the four corners. Using the entire lengths of the included ropes pulls the tarp out much wider than short ropes. Two Pole Tarp Camping Mode (trekking poles not included) Here the Apex is shown in a tarp camping mode. This mode uses two trekking poles (not included) or found sticks, to create an A-frame configuration. This mode is often used by tarp campers and over mosquito tents. Porch Mode (trekking poles not included) This photo shows the Apex pitched in porch mode over a camping hammock. Use 2 trekking poles or found sticks to prop up one or both sides of the tarp. This mode gives you a great view and plenty of dry living space under the tarp. Single Pole Tarp Camping Mode This mode creates a large living space with excellent protection from rain and wind. Use one trekking pole or a stick tied to a ridge tie-out point with one guy rope and the included stakes to stake out the tarp. Convertible Mode for Hammock Camping This mode is great when the weather is nice, but you want to be prepared for rain. To create this mode start setting your tarp up over your camping hammock like normal, but only stake out one side of the tarp and flip the other side over. This allows you to quickly flip it back over and stake it out, in case of rain. Canopy Mode Set up the two ridge tie-off points of the Apex high on trees and use the full 8' length of the guy ropes to pull the tarp out wide. This creates a great place to hang out at your campsite when wet weather rolls in. Center Pole Porch Mode (trekking poles not included) This mode raises the center of each side and only requires one stick or hiking pole per side. This is a great way to create a large living space with a great view! Storm Mode for Hammock Camping The Apex is set up low and tight to protect your camping hammock from wind blown rain. This mode is especially useful in windy conditions and heavy rain.

Haven't had a chance to test it out yet however it "expelled" the previous tarp from my hiking gear without even using it! I can already see it's the boom. I've been using a large sheet of "washed" Tyvek which makes an excellent ground cloth. However when trying to use it where you need to stake it down and/or tie it off, those peel and stick grommets that come with the Tyvek sheets are for sheet ($#!+)! They're not very sturdy. Not only is this lighter (won't be using it for ground cloth) the tie off loops are heavy duty and well sewn. Looks to be very sturdy. Packs down really light into the bugout bag I keep my 3-piece military sleeping bag system in. This dude kicks butt. I will probably get another one. Looking forward to some field testing soon. Oh?!?...the company has exceptional customer service. I had a problem with another product I bought from them and they went above and beyond. Frankly they provided a "solution" I didn't even ask for, nor would I. IMPRESSIVE to say the least. I'm a customer for life...
